Link Building Strategies That Work

How to Build Backlinks in Post Panda and Penguin World

INTRODUCTION:

Everybody has heard about new Google algorithm updates and how difficult it is for webmasters to promote their websites and as a result to earn money online. I am not going to talk about how to re-gain positions in SERP (Search Engine Results Page). I am planning to release another report soon, which will provide you with exact steps on how to improve your website’s ranking if it was penalized.
One of the steps in this process is a proper link building strategy you should follow.

I see today more and more people are talking about content only and its importance for good position of your website. I totally agree with this and content is the KING! But there is a small ‘BUT’ there. Imagine that there are two similar websites with superb quality content, targeting the same keywords. How Google or any other search engine can decide, which of those sites should go first in SERP? (We assume that both of those websites have the same domain age, no issues with hosting speed etc.) I believe you can guess the answer here – BACKLINKS. You can think about backlinks as about recommendations, given by other people for a website.

In the real life you would rather use services, which were recommended to you by somebody who has trust rather than by somebody dodgy, would not you? The same is true for backlinks pointing to your website.

It is difficult to cover all details of a proper link building in a short report, but I will try to describe methods we use in my company to promote our own as well as our clients’ websites.

THE METHOD:

You probably have heard about most of link building methods listed below, but I am really surprized that most of internet marketers fail to utilize them properly.

Article Marketing

I believe that most of people reading this report know what it is. For those who do not know this yet, it is a process of submitting unique articles to article directories. I would like to emphasize word ‘UNIQUE’ here as this makes your article more valuable in the eyes of Google and will help you to avoid penalties.
You might ask, “But my articles are going to be republished on other websites, which will make my articles not unique. What is going to happen then?”. This is true and the purpose of article marketing is to make other websites to republish you articles, so more backlinks from them are pointing to your website. Please remember that articles on most famous article directories, like http://ezinearticles.com/, are crawled by search engine spiders almost immediately, so by the time they are reused somewhere else search engines already know that the original article was published at the particular article directory.
There is also a requirement for republished articles to have your original links in them in addition with a link to the original article. This brings more weight to your article and to backlinks pointing from it to your website.

There are a lot of tools, which allow you to submit your articles to multiple directories, but I would not recommend anyone to use those tools to post articles with backlinks to your money pages. Use them for your second or even third tier of backlinks.

I am going to stop here and will advise those of you who are not familiar with article marketing to search for it online as there is plenty of information out there. You can also find a list of article directories in Google, but most popular from them are http://ezinearticles.com/, http://articlesbase.com, http://goarticles.com etc.

Guest Posting

This is a process of posting your articles on authority websites and blogs in your niche. It sounds simple, but it is really hard work to find authority websites, which would agree to publish your article. The key here is ‘AUTHORITY WEBSITES’!
I own a lot of websites and among them I have quite a few auto blogs, with a content coming from different sources. Those blogs do not have any authority whatsoever and I am surprised that I keep receiving a lot of requests for guest posting on those websites. Unless you have a dedicated person who manages this process for you, I would advise you not to waste your time contacting these low quality websites to get backlinks from them. Spend more time on finding real authority websites to publish your content on. Again, this is not easy, but if successful, it will worth it.

If you still want to have your content posted on multiple blogs, you can use Unique Article Wizard (UAW), which will post your article to hundreds of websites and article directories. I personally use it, but only for my second and third levels of backlinks. I used to use it to link directly to my money websites, but not anymore. It does not mean that it is not working any more. I simply prefer to have higher authority links on my first level of backlinks. But it works well for micro websites and I see a lot of people use it for marketing of local businesses too.

Blog Commenting

From the title you should understand what it means. It is a process of finding blogs in your niche or related niches, then visiting and leaving comments to blog posts published on those websites. As a part of this process you will be leaving a backlink to your site.

I personally stopped using it, but it can still be used to get great backlinks from authority websites. If you decide to do it, then spend time on finding real authority websites in your niche and post relevant comments there.

Do not use any software like Scrapebox for it, especially to link directly to your main site. If you still want to use it, then use it carefully for the second or even third level of backlinks. It also takes time to run those tools, so I would advise you to use Fiverr or other places to find services for it.

Forum Profiles

This is a process when you visit multiple forums and register accounts there. Once account has been registered on a particular forum, you will go to your profile and edit it, so it has your backlink in it. Usually you can have this link either in a ‘bio’ or ‘web page’ field in your profile.

I do not use it and do not recommend anyone to use this strategy for link building. Google has devalued these backlinks, because of a lot of abuse. It is fine to add your website to profiles, which you are actively using, but do not waste your time on spamming other forums with your fake profiles to gain low quality backlinks.

Web 2.0 Properties

Web 2.0 websites are sites with high PageRank and authority, where users can create accounts and publish their content. Some websites allow you to publish simple articles and others allow you to have your own blog hosted there.

This strategy is very efficient if implemented correctly. Quite often internet marketers use Web 2.0 websites just for profile backlinks. What it means is that they register accounts on Web 2.0 websites and only update their profile to incorporate a text link to their website within e.g. their bio field. This is OK, but it does not bring a lot of link juice hence they bring low value to your site.

I encourage you to use Web 2.0 websites to create proper backlinks. This does not mean that you have to ignore profiles in your Web 2.0 accounts. You still have to update them to have backlinks to your pages. What I really mean here is that you need to publish content on them with contextual backlinks in it. You can use these types of backlinks on any level of you backlinks hierarchy.

I use Web 2.0 properties to get backlinks to my money websites, to promote other Web 2.0 properties, for backlinks to my articles, published in article directories etc.

The most well-known Web 2.0 websites are http://www.squidoo.com/, http://www.weebly.com/, http://wordpress.com/, http://www.blogger.com, etc.

Social Bookmarks

Social bookmarks are websites, which allow users to bookmark and share links to websites they are interested in. So, when you bookmark a webpage from your site, you are getting a backlink to it from a social bookmark website. These types of backlinks used to work great, but today they do not bring much value in terms of link juice. It is still worth using them as they help to index new pages on your websites, Web 2.0 properties, etc. They can also bring some traffic to your site.

I still use social bookmarking occasionally, but not too much anymore. If I want to bookmark e.g. my Web 2.0 property, I use social bookmarking services from Fiverr as it helps to save a lot of time. You can buy software to do it for you, but it still takes a lot of time, so I prefer to outsource this process to somebody else.

Paid Backlinks

This is a very interesting topic. There are two groups of people there. First group is saying big NO to paid backlinks. I believe that this group contains the majority of internet marketers and SEO specialists out there. They believe that you can be banned by Google for doing this. I personally completely disagree with this opinion. If your website is bad and you use low quality backlinks, then this is the reason for ban of your website. If paid backlinks could cause real damage to your website, then it would be so easy to get rid of your competition. You could simply go and buy a lot of cheap low quality backlinks to remove your competitors from the first page of Google. But this does not work this way.
Second group and I belong to it, use paid backlinks to get high quality backlinks to their websites to rank higher than their competition. They do not afraid to buy backlinks and they understand that time is money and that they can pay for great authority backlinks and save time to expand their business.
I own a website this website (http://www.backlinks4u.com/), which I also use to buy backlinks from high quality websites to promote my own websites and websites of my clients.
I am really proud to say that none of them have ever been banned or penalized. As with anything in this world, you need to know how to use it correctly.
You can get real backlinks from websites with PageRank of up to PR9 there!

There are several main things to look for when you buy backlinks.

First thing look at is the authority and rank of a website you are getting backlinks from. Try to buy several very high authority backlinks and mix them with lower authority websites, so you do not have only high authority backlinks, which will look very suspicious. Also, keep those backlinks for at least several months as, after all recent Google updates, it takes at least 3-5 weeks for it to update your ranking properly.

Try to use more site wide and contextual backlinks as they will bring the most link juice to your website and proved to be the most efficient backlinks since Panda and Penguin.

Get links from pages in the same or related niche to your website. It is very important to have backlinks from relevant websites. This is actually the main factor for ranking high in SERP. If your main goal is to increase PR (PageRank), then simply buy the cheapest links with high PR to do this. For example, to gain PR3, you would need to buy two or three backlinks from webpages with PageRank equal to 3. Please note that this is estimation, based on my experience, and sometimes you might need a little bit more links for it.
Of cause I would advise you not to use links from adult and other suspicious niches unless you are in those niches yourself.

Lastly, do not use it as the only method in your link building process. Mix it with other types of backlinks, mentioned above.

Summary

I decided not to write a summary, which repeats what is said above, but will actually show you my link building structure.

First Tier
– High and Medium authority paid links
– Article Directories
– Web 2.0 properties
– Link Exchange (I did not mention this before, but you should know what it means. And I do not use reciprocal link exchange)

Second Tier
– Medium and low authority paid backlinks to Web 2.0 properties
– Web 2.0 properties
– Article Directories, including lower quality ones (can use automation tools for it)
– Unique Article Wizard (UAW)
– Bookmarks

Third Tier (I do not use this level very often)
– UAW
– Lower quality article directories (can use automation tools for it)
– Web 2.0 properties and profiles
– Automated blog commenting
– Automated profiles creation

As I said above, this has proven to be very efficient method for link building today. If you follow this report and start using methods, mentioned above, you will see that ranking of your website will start improving in a short period of time.

I would also like to add that you should use a combination of different backlinks in your strategy.

As an example you can start with the following routine during a week:

Day 1: Create a Squidoo lens

Day 2: Create and submit an article to EzineArticles

Day 3: Create a blog on WordPress.com

Day 4: Create an article with links to what was created above and submit to UAW

Day 5: Create any Web 2.0 property to promote something, created in

Even though paid links are included in my link building strategy, I did not mention them here as usually it is not a regular routine and people buy backlinks in big chunks.
I would advise you to add 1-5 links every week for a month and if this works to add more links later.

Google Over-Optimized Penalty Overview

Everybody who is involved in internet marketing and search engine optimization has definitely heard about Google Panda algorithm and penalties associated with it. It has been talked about for so long, so people got used to it and in one way or another we are all trying to cope with it, hoping that bad times are behind us. But you know what? It is not over yet.

Now there is a big buzz going around the web that they are about to introduce new penalties for over optimized websites. It means that if you did what was said in SEO books even one year ago, you can end up in being penalized for it. We personally think that Google is becoming too obsessed as they have enough analytics already to recognize dodgy sites. It seems they behave like the one who could not get enough and want more and more until they end up with nothing. World is really need an alternative to this monopolized market, but until it is not there we have to play their game.

So, what they mean by over optimized websites? We will try to analyse it below.
First think you need to check is your title and description. Those are your face for all search engines. Take a careful look at them and make sure that you do not just list keywords there, especially if all of them contain the same short keyword in each of them. The idea is that your title and description should be targeting your readers, but not search engines. The main idea here is that users are more likely to click on meaningful titles rather than on keywords. And if you have already read our Google Panda Overview post, then you should know how important click through rate is.

Second thing you need to think about is your internal backlinks structure. We all know that this is a very important part of SEO and we all use it on our sites. But be careful and do not overdo it. There are a lot of websites there, which stuff their posts with a lot of links to internal pages; they want to rank higher in search engines. Now this is considered as not a very good practice. Try to limit this and add only one or two text links there or even skip them if you have other backlinks in your posts. Especially avoid adding the same link multiple times on the same webpage.
Another tip, related to it is to avoid multiple links in your footer. I believe everyone has seen websites with a lot of links to internal or external pages, hidden in the footer. Stop doing it and find another place for those links on your website. Also, you should not make those links of the similar colour as your background. We all know that the same colour is a huge NO-NO practice, so a lot of webmasters started to use similar colours as a workaround. So, from now on, consider it as NO-NO too, as if you are caught you can lose more then you have gained from it.

Third point is to avoid backlinks from private networks. We think that it is not really dangerous to get backlinks from those if they are placed correctly. You should avoid networks, which contain interlinked members of them, as they can be easily detected. Another type of networks to stay away from those, which claim that, they will place your article to multiple websites. No matter how good your spun article is, it is really impossible to spin the same text even ten times so it cannot be recognized as the same article by smart search engine crawlers. So, if you really want to use blog networks, then you should use those, which allow you to publish one or two posts for the same article. We are planning to open our own network, which we are using for promoting our websites. So, if you are interested, keep an eye on our blog for announcements.
The same tip is relevant for article marketing. Do not publish the same article to multiple article directories. This means you should avoid automated tools like article marketing robot or use them very carefully.

Last thing we want to talk about is a content of your website. One thing you need to stay away from is from adding text to your content, which is specifically dedicated to search engines. Quite often webmasters publish very useful content, which might be difficult to optimize for specific keywords and then they add a paragraph to that article, which is stuffed with keywords and not really beneficial from readers’ point of view. This is going another target for Google in the nearest future.
Another important tip for the content of your website is avoiding multiple webpages optimized for the same keywords. It is fine to have several of them as it can be difficult to avoid this completely if your website is targeting a small niche, but you must avoid having lots of pages optimized for slightly modified keyword terms.

To summarize this, we tried to give you a very brief overview of additional things you need to look at when creating and developing your websites, so you stay under the radar of search engines. You should use these techniques together with all the others; we talked about earlier, in our previous posts. If you follow our advice, you will definitely rank higher than your competition and more importantly, you will be on a safe side from being penalized by Google.

Do Not be Scared by Google Panda

SEOWe are still receiving a lot of questions with regards to Google Panda update and how to deal with it. We pretty much covered this topic in our Google Panda Overview post. If you have not read it, we strongly recommend doing this as soon as possible. There are a lot of buzz around the Internet about this topic, but is this really the topic you should read again and again?

It seems like most internet marketing, so-called gurus are trying to do the best to scare people around, so they can flog their products to them. Do you know that the most powerful marketing strategy is based on fear? If the person is scared to death, then it is very easy to sell them a solution, even though it is a very basic one. And you can charge that person a premium price for a method, which claims to help them.

Imagine a webmaster who had been working on a website for several months, who found their website dropping in major search engines. This pour guy will be an easy target for search engine optimization ‘specialists’, who are actually pure internet marketer and they just know how to push buttons to make their products sold. Do not fall into this trap!

If you read our post about new Google algorithm and write down all tips we provide there, you will see that we have not provided any new information there. You can get any good SEO related ebook and use it successfully to fight with this magic ‘Panda’. There is no silver bullet and it is not a rocket science. The only thing you need to do is to follow the rules of SEO game, set by Google.

It is very easy to fight back and return your positions in search engines if you follow our advice. We actually posted a case study on how we were able to help one of our clients, using backlinks in our inventory and adding good quality content on their website. You can read about it in What Kind of Backlinks You Should Buy Today article.

Of cause, if you have a crappy web site and it dropped in ranking, you will have to spend more time to re-gain ranking back, as you will need to publish more great content on it. In the modern world, this website would not be just de-ranked, but it would be more likely de-indexed. If this happens, than we do not think you will be able to get it back into Google. The only chance to do this would be to add content and then re-submit it for review. But there is a big risk that you would not be approved and you will lose your content. There are some other tricks you can try, like getting aged domains and redirecting them to your banned site, but it also does not work as well as before.

So, if your web property has dropped in ranking, but was not de-indexed, then, there is a big chance you can get it back to the top. But do not use any dark or blackhat methods. Do not spam comments and generate tons of profiles with backlinks to it. These methods will not really help, but they can actually harm you in a bad way. You can use these techniques carefully, but only after you have returned your positions in search engines. Below we will remind you what we would do and what we actually do today for our clients.

Steps To Get Search Engin Ranking Back

  1. CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT. We want to emphasise again how important good quality content today. This content should not be short as 500 words in one article is not really enough anymore. You should try to make your articles of 1000 words or longer. Having this content, you will outrank most of your competition as they are still using fiverr and other cheap sources for their websites.
  2. Backlinks. We can talk for hours here and will not come to a conclusion on what exactly you should do here. All methods are great (we are not talking about blackhat methods). Articles are great source for backlinks. Social media websites are also great. If you have tried to use those methods, you will know that they are very time consuming. We use those methods and we create, probably from 10% to 20% of those links to our clients’ web pages. The rest are backlinks, which they buy in our inventory. We just do this for them or advise them on what types of text links we would advise them to purchase and they do it themselves.

So far, this methods works great for our clients and you can try it too. Just remember, that you need to have good quality backlinks coming to your quality content. If you do this properly, then you will be fine and new Google algorithm updates will not bother you. So, instead of buying a product from next Search Engine Optimization guru, better spend that money on quality content and backlinks as you will not learn anything new there.

We are hoping that this article was useful and that you have more confidence and knowledge now. Do not be scared, but do what you need to do to stay on the top.

We will continue to monitor trends, which are happening around the web and especially in SEO world and will continue publish updates and our views on that.

What Kind of Backlinks You Should Buy Today

There have been a lot of discussions whether it is safe or not to buy backlinks. And there are two camps. Webmasters say that you should not buy text links. The second group says that you should. To be honest, neither of them is right, but we tend to think that you can use payable one way links to improve your search engine ranking, even after Google Panda update. To prove it we have completed several tests with several websites of our clients, which were dropped in ranking, using links in our inventory only. The results were quite amazing.

One of websites had couple of dozen pages ranked on the first page of Google for very competitive keywords. About a month and a half ago the whole website dropped in ranking and instead of being in the top of SERP, they all had positions between 100 and 500. Sounds very familiar in the modern post Panda SEO world? Of cause the owner of the website panicked and did not know what to do with it and asked us for help. So, here is the story.

If you read our earlier post about new Google algorithm and how to avoid to be penalized, then you will know that there are actually two main very simple steps to follow:

  1. Add new quality content regularly.
  2. Build backlinks to your website.

Let’s covet both of these steps separately.

Content Writing

In terms of content writing we decided not to start aggressively write and publish articles on a daily basis. Instead we were publishing one article a week. Each article was completely unique, so do not use spun content even if it pass copyscape check, as it is not safe now. The average size of each article was between 1000 and 1500 words per article.

Keep in mind days of 300-500 words articles have gone. You can still use those for article marketing, but, you should not use such short articles on your own website. You cannot really put any useful content, which visitors of your website will enjoy reading and find it useful in such a short article.

Let’s summarize what we have actually done with the content. We simply started to update the website regularly and have been publishing one quality article per week. We did this, just to prove that quality of the content is more important than quantity. It does not mean that you should not write articles more often. If you have a capacity, then do so, as this will only help you in a long run.

Backlinks

Now to the interesting part – text links. To prove that purchased backlinks can work as good as free links we used only first types of links and used links only available in our database. It is worth saying that we did not really use single page simple text links. Instead we were using only site-wide backlinks, both context and simple. We also used regular context backlinks. To be honest we also used a couple of guest post feature, which is in a beta testing process at the moment and will be available soon for our users, but still the majority of backlinks we used in our link building process were text links, which are already available to our advertisers.

So, here is what we actually did. We were buying site wide text links ads both context and simple, on a weekly basis, with a pretty low pace (just 2-3 backlinks a week). So far we have built about 10-15 backlinks and we were really surprized with the results we achieved. The website of our client did not just return its positions, but it actually jumped even higher. This small test showed that you can beat Panda with the paid backlinks.

So, let’s summarize what we did in terms of link building:

  1. Buy site-wide backlinks. We were using both simple site-wide test links and context site wide links, to put our backlink within a short relevant content on as many pages as possible. The reason why we used site-wide text links is that they look very natural. Another reason why we prefer to buy site-wide backlinks is that it has better ROI as if you bought text links on the same website separately, it would cost you more if you sum up prices for each text link there.
  2. We also used normal, single page context links as they look natural too.
  3. All links were placed on websites with PR3-PR5. Again, site-wide links help to avoid backlinks to appear only on pages with high page rank, as websites usually have a lot of PR0 webpages too.
  4. We were aiming to get links on websites with page authority higher than 20.
  5. Build links regularly and with a small pace. It does not mean that you should not buy 10 of them on a daily basis, but this process should be spread over time. If you aim is to have 1000 backlinks, then you can buy text links with a higher pace, but do not buy hundreds of backlinks in one day.

Summary

Actually, this is pretty it. There is no rocket science in what we did. You should simply add fresh quality content to your site and build quality backlinks. Both of these components will help you in ranking your website higher in today’s environment. So, simply follow these steps and you will be fine. It does not mean that you should not use other methods and SEO strategies, like social marketing, article marketing, videos etc. They all will help, but we just wanted to prove that even simple strategy can help you to achieve great results.

Google Panda Overview

What is Google Panda

As you might have noticed there has been a lot of talking about Google Panda and what it actually means for your online business. There are many internet marketers who were hit by it and thousands of websites were either de-indexed or significantly dropped in ranking. We know a lot of people who are struggling today as their websites dropped from the top of SERP to the very bottom of it. Their income was swiped overnight.

So, what is that magic ‘Panda’ word means for us. As we all know, Google is really trying to make search results cleaner and more useful for people who use their search engine. We do not really like this monopoly of Google and hoping that other search engines will come into play soon. But this is a different story. Let’s get back to Google Panda algorithm. The purpose of it is to get rid of low quality websites, which do not bring any benefits to their readers. From here, we have one of the main rules of it, which is content.

Website Content Rules

Everybody heard that content is the King in the Internet marketing world. But it actually was not really true until new algorithm updates. People still were able to earn money with low quality contend and syndicated websites with tons of duplicate content. And now that time has gone. Most of the websites, which were penalized, are those with duplicated or low quality content. Today, to rank high, you need to have a lot of great content, which is really beneficial for readers of the site. Also, content should not be too short and designed only for SEO purpose. Users should stay on your website and you cannot achieve this without quality content, but we will discuss it later in this article. For now, let’s summarize some main requirements for the content of your website:

  1. Content should be unique. Avoid content duplication.
  2. There should be enough content in each article as days of 300-500 words articles are over
  3. Content should be informative and useful for readers.
  4. There should be a lot of content on your website. This is not the main rule, but it definitely helps.
  5. Unnatural usage of keywords. This is not really new requirement, but we wanted to mention it here again as it became more important for us too.

User Interaction

We mentioned before that user experience is very important for new Google Panda. This means that users should be willing to visit your websites, to stay on it and to come back. Also, it is very important, how many users are clicking on your website in search engine results. Today, all these things are more important than ever before. Let’s briefly discuss these requirements separately.

  1. There should be low bounce rate. This means, that once on your site, users should stay there. If they do, than, this will show to the search engine that this site is important for the user. This brings us back to the high quality content.
  2.   Returning visitors are monitored. All visitors to your website are carefully monitored and if a lot of visitors come back to your site, this shows Google that it is really useful for them, hence it should bring you higher in the results. To get your visitors come back, brings us back to the content. You should update your website regularly and with top notch content, which visitors will want to read.
  3. Click through rate. This parameter is very important for Google and it actually has been for a while. This means a percentage of people clicking on your website in the search results. It does not make sense for any search engine to show your website if no one is clicking on it. So, you should be very specific with the title and description of your web pages.

Domain Requirements

We all know that some time ago it was quite important to have a keyword in your domain name. It has not really been the case for quite some time now. The only benefit of having a keyword in your domain name would be when somebody is linking to your website, using your domain name. We would not recommend to bet on that and not to spend a lot of time, searching for domains with a particular keyword in it.

Another change, which has been recently introduced, is that now whole domains are being evaluated, but not single web pages. With the Panda changes, an entire domain is evaluated rather than each page of it. To get higher ranking in Google your domain should have a very high authority, which is calculated on a summarized authority of each page of the website. This means that each page is important and deserves to be promoted the same way as you promote your home page. Also, this means that all your pages should have good value for your visitors. Again, think about content of each and every page. If you have just a couple of webpages, which bring great value to your website and other pages, which do not have any value at all, those low quality pages will drug your site down.

Testing SEO Strategies

Everybody knows that testing and especially split testing is very important in the search engine optimization process. Unfortunately, we have quite bad news here as with Panda update, it is more difficult to do this. We are not saying it is impossible. It just became a little bit harder as it cannot be done as quickly as before. The reason behind it is that, because of the complexity of new algorithms, it takes much longer for Google to analyze and rate our websites. As of now new updates do not happen more often than once every 30 days. So, if you have made a change, you should wait at least one month to see some results. And as the logic of the search engine becoming more complex, we believe that this process will be taking longer in the future.

Summary

To summarize our short overview of the Google Panda update we would recommend you to spend more of your time on writing quality content and updating your website regularly.

One area, which we have not covered in our overview, is link building.

This is another very important part of search engine optimization. Google wants to see backlinks to grow naturally, but you can still use legit methods like article marketing. You can even purchase backlinks if you do it in a right way. If you decide to do this, we would recommend you to get either site-wide backlinks or content text links. It does not meant that usual text links are not important, as they are, but site-wide and especially content backlinks bring more value. If you take a look in our inventory, you can even find site-wide content backlinks, which means you will have a text link to your website surrounded by relevant text on each and every page of a website you select. Please remember that you should try to get backlinks from high authority pages as low quality links can harm your website.
